Booking Terms:

  • Our opening times are strict because when reception is closed we have other things that need to be done with the animals in our care. Drop off times are 10am-12noon and 3pm-4pm. Collection times are 10am-12noon and 3pm-4:30pm. We like any pets arriving to get settled in well before closing, so the earlier the better for us and your pet if it works for you.

  • We close Sundays and Bank Holidays

  • All bookings are subject to availability and this might include having the correct kennel free that suits your dogs needs so please do not book a holiday based on the fact we have availability. We have different kennel blocks for different breeds and temperaments. A booking fee of 20% is payable on all bookings within 12 hours of acceptance. Failure to pay your booking fee will result in a cancellation. All booking fees are non refundable or transferable to a different date.

  • If you book your pet in and then reduce the timeframe of the stay, within 4 weeks of arrival then the full balance of the booking will be due. This is due to staff rotas that we prepare in advance.

  • If you want to collect your pet early, that is fine if you let us know however no refunds will be given.

  • We charge per day regardless of time of drop off or collection. This includes the day of arrival and the day of departure.

  • If you have a dog with issues or you are a new customer then we would highly recommend a trial of 3 days prior to any longer stays. This ideally needs to be done in January/February if you are looking at summer months the same year.

  • We do provide food for both cats and dogs however it is advisable to provide your own food due to the fact that a change in diet can upset both cats and dogs. If you are providing your own food then please provide it portioned up and in a sealable container.

  • In peak season we have a minimum charge of 5 days.

  • Kennel cough is not required by licensing and some breeds its not effective on. Should you wish to vaccinate against kennel cough then you need to make sure this is done 4 weeks prior or more to coming in, due to the fact its a live vaccine.

  • Full vaccinations are required to board with us and they must be in date. If you turn up and your vaccinations have lapsed then we will refuse entry.

  • Extra care of £3 per day is applicable if we have to administer anymore than 3 tablets or we have to use wipes, drops or any other medication.

  • If your pet needs a visit to the vets, there is an administration charge of £30 per hour to cover our time and fuel. A receipt will be given on collection and our bill must be paid in full at that time. Any vet bills that occur for any reason other than something that might be our fault must be paid for, by you, to whichever vets we managed to get an appointment with at that time. The vets may change depending on availability.

  • We provide beds, bowls, toys, blankets and everything your pet needs whilst they are with us, we do not accept belongings from homes due to cross contamination.

  • Heating is included in the price.

  • Walks are included in the price and we have no hidden extras.

  • Please note if your pet arrives and has behavioural issues that we have not been made aware of then we can refuse entry but you will still be charged, it is very important to tell us anything we should be aware of prior to coming in, well in advance and ideally before making your first booking.

  • If you cancel your booking within 4 weeks of arrival then the balance is payable in full. Failure to pay, will result in your suspension and we will go through small claims court to recover any balances due.

  • If you fail to turn up for your pet and do not notify us within 14 days then we will seek advice from the dog warden and RSPCA regarding abandonment. This is a serious offence.

  • Signing our terms digitally means that you are agreeing with them in full, this will be done when you book online.

Kennel Cough Myth - Proper name is 'Infectious Bronchitis'.
Kennel cough is a highly infectious airborne condition, and can easily be spread. This means that dogs who have never been anywhere near a boarding kennel can develop kennel cough.
Here’s what you need to know about kennel cough to limit the possibility that your dog will be infected.
How Kennel Cough is Spread
Because kennel cough is very infectious, it is spread in much the same way as the common cold. Infected dogs will release virus and bacterial particles into their environment and this can be breathed in by other dogs,

who can then be affected themselves.
Humans can catch colds if they are in close proximity to someone who already has a cold or if they touch things that have also been used by them, and the situation is very similar with kennel cough. If your dog has close contact with an infected dog or shares food and water bowls or toys with them, they can easily develop kennel cough too.
Here at Oakenshaw Boarding kennels, we keep all dogs separate or within their family group.
*  Food/water/ toys are not shared.
*  Dogs do not mix at exercise time and dogs do not get nose to nose contact.
*  the kennels are well ventilated and we use the correct cleaning
fluids that not only kills the infectious bronchitis but is a full disease control product.
Vaccination isn’t a guarantee that your dog will never get kennel cough.
It is not usually dangerous and normally clears up without treatment within a few weeks.
Apart from your dog coughing, the infection is unlikely to make them feel ill
however puppies, elderly dogs and those with existing medical conditions can be susceptible too

complications to secondary issues. If you have concerns then please speak to your vet.
Kennel cough has an incubation period of 2 to 14 days. If your pet is given the vaccination then please do this 4 weeks prior to your kennel visit as it is a live vaccine.
