About Us
Oakenshaw is a family run business with us all living on site for added security. Our site is 16 acres and fully secure with only one way in and one way out and it is protected by CCTV and electric 8ft gates. We have owned the kennels since 2014 and have we have turned Oakenshaw into " The number one place " for dog and cat care in Wakefield with customers travelling to us from as far a field as Manchester and Newcastle.
Daily Routine
We start work around 6am and all the kennels and cattery are cleaned first thing. We then proceed to feed everyone in our care and after breakfast more cleaning is needed. The dogs then enjoy the first of their walks for approximately 30 mins. We do not mix dogs unless they are from the same household as we do not want to be responsible for any accidents. Between 12noon and 3pm all staff take a dog each and go in the off lead areas or take them for a walk around our grounds. We have numerous shaded areas which are perfect in the summer months but also work well in winter months. Tea time is between 4:30pm-5pm and after tea the kennels are cleaned again. The dogs then have their final walk. Lights out is around 7-8pm and as we all live on site there is always somebody around well into the evening. We do not open Sundays or Bank Holidays on reception as we all like those days to spend with the pets in our care instead of answering phones and emails. The cats and dogs in our care also receive constant contact from staff and if they are child friendly our children also like to spend time with them which is great socialisation for the cats and dogs whilst they are with us. Set Up
We have a number of kennels on site with nice views of woodland and the main boarding block faces our paddock which houses our horse/donkey and two pygmy goats. The dogs find this relaxing/stimulating as well as watching the other wildlife we have on site.
All the kennels and catteries are fully covered and both have a covered outdoor area and a fully covered indoor area which also includes the heating. Our heating is automatic and included in the price. We provide everything and the only thing you need to supply is any special diet food or medication if required. Medication and behavioural issues (this must be discussed before booking) has an extra care charge of £3 per day.
